The international artistic youth exchange created an unlimited space of creativity for 39 young Roma and non-Roma from 6 European countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Spain, Slovakia and Germany). From 4th -13th May the young people created their own story and vision based on a wide range of artistic methods, including impro theatre, theatre dance, flamenco, and painting and worked together as a team. The project aims were strengthening the mutual cooperation between modern youth theatres working on local level with a specific concept of art action and social inclusion of young people of different social and cultural backgrounds. This international artistic youth exchange created a long-term cooperation of this network and in the self-initiative and responsibility within the artistic and the creative work of young people. The whole project was based on a process-oriented and inclusive approach in which the participants were the ones who shaped the final product according to their ideas. The final product was a theatre presentation including flamenco music and dance at the Herdelezi street festival, which is takes place regularly every year.” The whole street is a playhouse” raised the self-awareness and self-esteem of the young people, gave them the capacity to express themselves and empower them to get engaged in society and made their voices heard. Art and theatre are a low threshold means for involving young people with fewer opportunities which stimulated them to get involved in future activities. Art action is more than a tool!
