This film was commissioned for a stand at 100 per cent design at Earl's Court.
The CNC machine was a relatively new thing when this was made in 2001 and I was captivated by the rhythm of the beast as it lurched back and forth, pumped and concertinerd.
I was struck by the sense of the "man behind the machine" and how human it felt.
A friend introduced me to Carsten Nicolai's sound work and it seemed to fit perfectly with the spirit of my work.
It was shown at Bloomberg in London and at Sadler's Wells as part of their Dance for the camera series.
