Paella (pronounced Pah-a-ya) is a Valencian rice dish that originated in its modern form in the mid-19th century near lake Albufera, a lagoon in Valencia, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It's one of Spain's signature dishes and also one of my favorite things to eat, so my girlfriend and whipped one up for Vimeo's Weekend Challenge. It's a little tough finding the right type of rice and other ingredients in Chicago, hence the name "a lo gringo," or, 'a la Americana.'
