My prayer is that children become friends with God the way Abraham did. Abraham’s story is found in the book of Genesis. While the Bible does not share Abraham’s childhood, inspiration for this book came from the midrash. The midrash is a collection of Jewish stories that teach and explain the Bible. I was fascinated how these stories described how a boy named Abram, raised in a nation of idol worshipers, became Abraham the father of our faith.
My story presents Abram’s search for God as a child. Surrounded by idols, Abram knew there had to be more to faith than believing in statues made of metal and clay. He looked at God’s creation and declared, “The one true God is who I will find. I will not stop, I’ve made up my mind.” The Bible says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” Jeremiah 29:13. That is exactly what Abram did and his life was never the same, God even gave him a new name. Abraham is the father of our faith because he was the first to discover friendship with God and receive God’s promises. He shared those promises with his children and today you can know God’s blessings and see his glory because you are now part of the greatest story. God bless you and your family.
