PPM was commissioned to create this promo for 'Global Newsbeat' pilots on BBC World Service radio.
Peter Price produced, scripted, shot, lit and edited the promo to a tight deadline. The graphics were also created for this project by PPM.
PPM was asked to produce a punchy promo to showcase the four journalists at the heart of these pilots. We focused on how the presenters must adapt their journalism for younger listeners while maintaining the trusted reputation of the BBC's language services. The full version also included videos recorded by test audiences in Kenya and Pakistan (not included here for copyright reasons).
The four languages being piloted were Urdu, Dari, Kirundi and English for Africa.
BBC Global News currently has a worldwide audience of 256 million people. BBC director general Tony Hall has set a target for the BBC to double that to 500 million. In most developing countries in the world, young people make up a growing proportion of the population. They also have a more global outlook on life, but the BBC produces very little for them. Global Newsbeat may be the answer.
