As part of the Balletboyz: The Dancers' Course, Thomasin Gulgec, member of the Russell Maliphant company, taught repertoire and technique in relation to Maliphant's work 'Afterlight'. Using photographs of Vaslav Nijinsky and his geometric drawings as inspiration the work is intricately beautiful and flowing.
After learning a part of the repertoire students used similar stimuli to create small solos. As the central dancer in this trio you can see I keep the movement very small. I actually reduced my vast pool of initial movement ideas down to 4 recurring ideas then based on these basic words played with the idea of a circle swirling outwards then retracting back to its central point.
