Back in 2010, our video team created short clip called the "Marshmallow Test," based on a famous Stanford experiment. The premise of the experiment was to see if kids could resist eating a single marshmallow.
Since we put the clip on YouTube on April 29, 2010, it has been viewed more than half a million times - it is the most watched video we've ever made.
What makes the video so entertaining is watching the children go back and forth, agonizing with the choice between instant gratification by eating the marshmallow or delayed gratification by waiting to eat the marshmallow and being rewarded with a second one. There's something universal besides the kids cuteness, that draws us in, because we have all faced those decisions between instant and delayed gratification.
This Sunday we are looking at how Jesus addressees temptation in the Lord's Prayer. And in our lives, the stakes are so much higher than marshmallows, for our very souls are at stake.
