The purpose of this project was scanning and modelling of dinosaur fossils, namely the fossil bones of sauropod hind legs. Additional deliverables were obtained such as texturing, sections and animations. The fossilized bones were found at the site of Sant Antoni de la Vespa, Morella (Castellón). The data acquisition was performed with a Faro Focus 3D laser scanner during its exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Castellón (Spain). There was a collaboration agreement between the Polytechnic University of Valencia (@GeomaticaUPV) and Grup Guix, an organization dedicated to the study and dissemination of paleontology and geology.
It was necessary to register 17 scans, in order to avoid areas without data. Scans were registered with
3DVEM - Register software, developed by @GIFLE_UPV (Universitat Politècnica de València). 3DReshaper was used to get the 3D model. Point cloud and 3D model animation were animated with 3DVEM - Live.
