William A. Starr
(October 20, 1931 - March 31, 2014)
William Allen Starr, husband, proud father and grandfather, died on March 31, 2014, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Bill was born on October 20, 1931, in Lansing, Michigan to Frank and Helene (Whitton) Starr.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Lawrence, Chuck and Robert Starr; sisters Marjorie Starr, Francis Miller and Theresa Oberst. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Wanda (Starkweather) Starr; sisters in law, Colleen (James) Brown and Sondra (Farhat) Starr; sons, Jon (Linda), Chris (Gladys) and Joe (Sarah Bammel) Starr; and granddaughter Andrea Starr. Bill graduated from Sexton High School in 1951 and served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1952 to 1954 on the Great Lakes icebreakers Mackinaw and Acacia. Following in his fathers footsteps along with his brothers Lawrence and Robert, Bill entered the building trades as a brick mason. He went on to start and build his masonry contracting business, Starr Construction with the help of his brothers and later his sons until his retirement in the early 1990s. Bill enjoyed summer camping trips with his family and travels in later years with wife Wanda and his cousin, the late Jack Starr and his wife the late Dorothy Starr, to the Alabama Gulf Coast to escape the bitter cold Michigan winters. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Parkinson Foundation in memory of Bill.
