The End is a 1st person online multiplayer space shooter I developed together with David Tran. It is Oculus Rift enabled, but for this video, I choose to show you the standard version.
For the online part of this game, I used a service called Photon, which greatly simplifies the production of an online game with Unity. Next to the multiplayer programming and the game design, I also worked on many of the 3d assets and the effects.
Now, regarding the gameplay: you are in control of a small spaceship which is equipped with laser-cannons, rockets and mines. The goal is to shoot down the other players as many times as possible, but there is a twist: the hole system collapses after some time, with the space station and all of the asteroids exploding. If the player can’t make it to a hyperspace-portal, he’s going to get killed in the final explosion, and that’s also why the game’s title is The End.
We designed the space station, which David built, to be the central point of the level. Because of its size, the player will probably always try to get near it.
The many small towers and mainly the multiple tunnels allow for an intense combat, where the hunters turn into the hunted, mines can be placed strategically and rockets will crash into the space station while enemies escape.
