Lumani Dance Theatre is the performance troupe of Nomadic Tapestry, Huntsville Alabama’s premiere belly dance studio with its’ primary focus on Middle-Eastern dance and the music that inspires it. The studio, Nomadic Tapestry Movement and Music just celebrated its’ 8th 2013. Lumani combines the basic essences of Belly Dance and Live Music; creating theatrical productions that educate and well as entertain. Dancing and performing to live music of many different cultures, artists, and genres is at the heart of Lumani. Our musicians and dancers come from diverse backgrounds and training; giving our troupe it’s unique flavor. Under the artistic direction of Lisa Wylie, its’ fun theatrical style is continually evolving. Lumani and its’ members have participated in festivals across the Southeast. From local art festivals to belly dance conventions and workshops, Lumani has participated and performed at Atlanta’s TribalCon, Miami’s Spirit of the Tribes, Nashville’s Tribal Revival, Huntsville’s AL ‘s Panoply, and the Alabama Renaissance Festival. Most of our performers have non-artist based professions and family lives that limit travel outside of the Southeast. Several times a year Lumani collaborates with other performers in the Southeast to create and perform live music and belly dance productions and dance parties in Huntsville, Alabama, as well as other cities and venues.
