This film aims to convey the message that Climate change is real. Harappa was the victim of Climate change. The annual monsoon rains failed for a period of 200 years between 4000 to 4200 years ago. If Harappa with its meticulously planned cities, agrarian economy could fall prey to climate change, we too could be a victim of climate change. I hope this short film can make people pause, ponder and hopefully take action.
I have made it based on facts published in various papers.
The paper published in Geology titled "Abrupt weakening of the summer monsoon in northwest India 4100 yr ago" by Y. Dixit, Geology, 2014 found that rains had stopped for 200 years. This was based on the O18 isotope in the snail shells preserved in a closed rainfed lake called Kotla Dahar. When there is no rain, water evaporates. So the lighter O16 isotope of oxygen evaporates faster than the heavier O18 isotope. So the O18 isotopes gets enriched in the snail shells.
The Paper in PLoS ONE by Robbins Schug G, Blevins KE, Cox B, Gray K, Mushrif-Tripathy V (2013) titled"Infection, Disease, and Biosocial Processes at the End of the Indus Civilization" has suggested that infectious diseases were prevalent. There was violence as 50% of the skeletons found had skulls fractured.
So the information used was a mix of both the above mentioned studies. For further details please
