Prototype piston design for openSLS R2 hardware. The intended use is to percolate heated Nitrogen gas up through the powder, heating the powder and creating a shielding layer of inert gas over the surface of the powder. Additionally, at the end of a print, the remaining powder can be fluidized by increasing the flow rate of the gas, which reduces the forces that the powder can exert on the printed object embedded in the powder. For very delicate objects, this can be important as it reduces the chances that the object will be damaged during removal.
