Barnardos supports children whose well-being is under threat, by working with them, their families and communities and by campaigning for their rights. To promote the charity director Gary McKendry for Blinder Films teamed up with the gang at The Hive to create the ‘Memories’ spot.
The commercial was shot in various locations around Dublin last month with Post Production taking place at Screen Scene. Shot on a mixture of formats that represent a series of memories, the ad highlights the idea that what happens to someone as a child shapes the person they become.
Editor Juniper Calder had worked with Gary in the past on a number of different campaigns “Gary is very open to the view of a fresh pair of eyes that is the editor, making for an enjoyable collaboration. The style of the intimate shots gives a sense of life caught unawares. The non-sequential edit then imitates how memories are actually perceived.”
From a list of possible tracks, a song by James McMorrow was then chosen for the piece, explains Juniper “The sweet haunting style of his music alongside these various violent images makes for a highly emotive commercial. What Barnardos is trying to ‘sell’ here is awareness and so we hope that this campaign can focus the audience’s attention onto these kid’s lives and really make a difference.”
The 5.1 theatrical audio was also completed at Screen Scene.
