The Wasatch dawn patrol is an age old tradition. It was pioneered by The great Latter Day Skiers of the 80’s. The concept is pretty simple : wake up at an ungodly hour, drink a fat coffee, and be on top of the chosen line as the sun is rising. In order to be on said line, it is necessary to adjust what one might call “normalcy” to something more extreme.
Skiing has shifted for me, I used ride park or as a friend called it “those wild jumps” but after loads of injuries and a collapsed “career” I’ve migrated beyond the boundaries of the ski areas. Thus, this winter I’ve committed to the paradigm shift of skiing sanity and woken up in the middle of the night to go ski big, scary lines in the dark. Here’s a video that doesn’t belong on Newschoolers. It’s something different, more up than down. No spins or flips, just cold rotten snow and fear of falling over rocks and ice.
