Getting closer to a guy with a liberty statue outfit. In his own rights he´s the one promoting for commercial purposes. Business and happening within this scene is in the middle of traffic jams within the most commercial area of Key West. First I thought that this Key West is a rich scene, with their humorous living version about statue of liberty. When filming this video I realized that this is not a joke. I was having an encounter with the poverty. This man is actually symbolizing poverty in the most surreal way. During the close up I realized how conditions with these symbols are not at all humorous as they are likely positioned for the commercial aims. No freedom, no glory but something more like poorly waged worker in the context of Key West. Tourism and commerce are intertwined. This little interview type of try out did reveal a little bit about the labour conditions in this relatively poor southernmost area of U.S. The man dressed up more or less as a clown. I didn´t get why the man is planted as a sign of liberty in the midst of humiliating working conditions. At first I thought about making an interview. During the encounter I realized that interview in this scenario it is not respectable or safe for the worker. On the other hand I didn´t clarify my intentions for him either, because I was experimenting and filming simultaneously. Finally when I saw this guy - I thaught about going towards him if he tells stories for instance how Shell is facilitating their recruit policy or some other gossips. On the spot I ended up with the decision to just to have small talk with him. For me this unique experience was not only short but unforgettable and full of contradictions that are long to last.
