With the theme “The Next Leap in Mobility”, four interdisciplinary teams are entering this year’s Audi Urban Future Award to validate theses about urban change in four cities: Berlin, Boston, Mexico City and Seoul. The competition entries relate to specific current urban development projects.
The Boston competition team’s entry demonstrates opportunities created whenever ambitious urban and mobility planning develop interactively as cities evolve. Their approach: to create a market situation for intermodal mobility solutions between automobile manufacturers, real- estate developers and cities. Their vision: a regulated multimodal mobility marketplace designed to improve the city experience while allowing the public to find the best options. With its project, the Boston team is aiming to make the leap towards tomorrow‘s urban and mobility planning. Simulation has made it possible for the first time to obtain viable key metrics for gaining space, enhancing value, and transforming urban life and work through automotive innovations such as piloted driving and parking, or networked communication between cars and traffic lights, when these innovations are integrated with progressive policies.
