His father lost to cancer and eldest brother killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province, Ben Kane is but one of three survivors in a family originally of five. Now, four years later, he shares his on-going story.
Please Don’t Knock begins the process of sharing pain during a time when violence has become integral to popular culture, often leaving war-torn families misrepresented and emotionally destitute from a lack of communal understanding. They are then seemingly anonymous. Support may exist, but to be genuinely heard is more difficult to come by.
When we see death, what is it we now see? Has it become but a passing imprint to dissociate from? We often think in terms of who has died, but not who is left behind and what they must bare. Please Don’t Knock is an looks to collapse the disconnect between the comforts of American life and the realities of what is happening in the wake of war and those affected by its aftermath. Only then can we begin to see what those eyes have seen, and in turn listen. It only takes once.
Please Don't Knock is an ongoing work in progress.
