Rui Cunha Foundation, with the joint effort of Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, has the pleasure to invite the 55th Venice Biennale Participant Macao Artist Canal Cheong Jagerroos to hold ‘Pure Affection: Solo Exhibition of Canal Cheong Jagerroos. Besides of celebrating Canal’s participation in the prestigious Venice Biennale, the goal of this exhibition is to encourage the reassertion of Chinese tradition, culture, and heritage in this globalized world, as well as conveying to Macao youngster to work hard and be persistent to their dream and one day they will shine like Canal.
In this exhibition, Canal attempts to explore the enthusiasm towards life, as well as the planned and spontaneous moments that bind the material and immaterial realms. Inspired by ancient Chinese philosophies, poems, nature as well as the Artist’s unique experience of having lived in various different countries for more than 20 years, Canal’s work have incorporate creative techniques that involve using multiple layers of rice paper, acrylic, ink, and traditional Chinese pigments and mixed medium to derive a sense of depth on canvas. Canal has participated in more than 40 solo / group exhibitions worldwide in the past 20 years and more than 400 pieces of Canal’s paintings are cherished by worldwide Art lovers and art collectors.
In order to disseminate the message of the Artist and this Exhibition, Rui Cunha Foundation has organized several extended events which include Canal in Conversation – a sharing session of the artist hosted by Macao/Australia artist Mr. Denis Murrell during the exhibition opening, guided tours to Macao students conducted in person by Canal, and a charity auction which the raised fund will be 100% donated to charity.
