Media is constantly bombarding us with messages about womanhood, in this short film a young girl looks at the world around her trying to understand what it means to be a woman in society.
a woman should be beautiful. this is what society says she should be. she should be caring, sweet, and nurturing. she is bold but not too bold. she is smart, graceful, and elegant. she is emotional, and yet she is strong. but should not have a strong opinion. she works just as hard, but is paid less than a man. a woman should love cooking, and baking. she should keep a beautiful home. her fingers and toes should be perfectly manicured. she will fall in love. with a man. she will be a wife, and she will be a mother. she is sexy. but not revealing. she is vulnerable, but not too naive. she is feminine. she wears makeup. she wears dresses. and she wears heels. "a woman is often measured by the things she cannot control. she is measured by the way her body curves and doesn't curve. by where she is flat or straight or round. she is measured by 36-24-36, by inches, and ages, and numbers. by all the outside things that don't ever add up to who she is on the inside." - unknown
