Submitting this to the Speedhunters first-person perspective video contest!
I've always loved first-person perspective racing films, especially ones that get the eye-level view just right. Views from the outside of the car, inside the car, or top of the helmet don't quite cut it for me. I want to see what the driver sees: how he sights his lap, where he looks to apex each corner, how he eyes down his opponents, and just how jarring of an experience it really is. When I was surprised with a GoPro for Christmas, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it first. Unfortunately, I don't own a track-ready car, so the local go-karting track was my best option.
This was the first heat of the Sunday Night Heats event put on by LeMans Karting. I was picked at random to start the heat from the back of the grid, but thanks to a small pile-up in the first corner, I quickly jumped to 5th place. From there, I worked my way up to 3rd. I had my eye on 2nd place and thought about making a couple of pass attempts (see if you can spot them!), but I decided to avoid any drastic moves. I actually ended up winning the entire event! I have footage from the whole thing, but the first heat was definitely the most exciting. If I weren't finishing up my college degree, I'd put together the rest. Oh well. :(
Hope all of you Speedhunters enjoy the video, and thanks for watching!
