Theatre Embassy was founded in Amsterdam,
The Netherlands in 2001. In the 12 years that followed
the organization worked on the capacity building of
theatre artists and theatre groups in 27 different
countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. They
trained over 2.700 local artists and reached
more then 1 million spectators.
In these years around 300 Theatre Ambassadors
where sent abroad to train, and develop theatre
projects. From their experiences in the field a
methodology was crystallized, in which the right
conditions for a multidisciplinary and intercultural
theatre project in the setting of a developing country
are te be found.
The film ‘Global Theatre Connection’ shows three training
projects in Bhutan, Ecuador and Sudan and shows
how these projects realized outdoor theatre plays with
context content for new audiences. The three projects
were part of the Global Theatre.
