"The War on Drugs: Truth or D.A.R.E.?" exposes the propaganda of politicians and corporations that influence drug policy. This 23 minute documentary video was produced by Eugene Choi, Yosef Girmay, Mike Hegazy, and Jessica Martinez during the Fall 2001 semester of the Ethnic Studies 128 and 190 class at the University of California, Berkeley.
The documentary was featured in the 2002 student film showcase at the Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley, and was also a 2002 UC Berkeley Eisner Prize winning video. The video is part of two collections at the Media Resource Center in the Moffitt Library (lib.berkeley.edu/MRC/StudentFilmsVid.html).
"The War on Drugs: Truth or D.A.R.E.?" was produced with virtually no budget, shot with a mini-DV camera borrowed from the film department and edited with Adobe Premiere on computers in the computer science department. Sorry for the poor quality of the video, but we did not have access to the original for upload onto the web.
Much thanks to Professor Loni Ding who guided us through the project. Her commitment to this class and these projects changed the lives of many students over the years. She is sorely missed.
Special thanks also to Marsha Rosenbaum, Fred Gardner, Mike Hernandez, Jeff Jones, Mike Alcalay (R.I.P.), Chris Conrad, Cliff Betson, David Presti, Arian White, "Kevin," and UC Berkeley Students for a Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP).
