'march (traces of a journey (re)imagined)' is my contribution to a project initiated by Dutch electronic artist Jos Smolders. Jos tasked numerous composers to respond in some way to a series of photographs he took during a specific month of 2013, with each composer receiving one photo per day throughout their allocated month. The photos I received during the month of March were taken during a journey Jos took across the USA, and painted spacious yet candid and intimate pictures of the everyday during his travels. Deconstructing, merging and blending his images together, I constructed this short work based around five composite images that suggested new associations between the original materials. These composite images were then further juxtaposed to create a slowly morphing visual palette with which to respond to sonically. Without attempting to directly sonify the visual, the music was developed organically as a response to the suggestive and emergent forms of this composite visual environment.
