Snowboarding down the Fuhrer Finger route of Mt. Rainier on the 13th of April, 2014. We spent the previous night at 8,400' and made the ascent the following day, arriving at the summit at 3:00 p.m. after 9 hours of going up. We had to carry the splitboards the entire way due to not being equipped with ski-crampons (lesson learned) while battling strong winds and insecure footing with crampons in snowboard boots. The descent took roughly 50 minutes back to camp over sastrugi and wind packed snow. Not until we entered the constriction that is the Fuhrer Finger did we find soft spring-like snow.
