A young woman gets a cryptic text message as things go bump in the night.
Whenever I test a camera, after the usual random shots of trees, my cats and occasionally humans if one's around, I like to shoot an actual 'something' with it to see how it fares when one actually needs to use the camera. I was returning the Black Magic Pocket Camera the next day, it was 2 in the morning and I finally had an idea of something to shoot with my girlfriend Eva who had patiently looked left, right and forward during my camera tests.
For this short film I wanted to only use what I had, the camera and two extra batteries, a simple (and not very smooth) tripod, my Canon FD lenses and whatever lights I had lying around - in this case a redhead I'd bounce off the walls for overall ambience and key and an LED light panel I used to emulate the TV she's watching.
The story was about two minutes longer with one or two other locations in the house, but after watching how quickly the camera was eating up batteries, I cut it short. I love the sensor, size and price of this camera, but the way this thing eats up batteries kills me.
Didn't record sound either. As the flick had no dialogue I added all the foley and sound effects in post.
Full review on my blog coming soon.
