You know what's super handy when doing dynamic range tests between video and film modes? A Waveform monitor! Sadly, the BMPCC doesn't have one (that's why I've bought an Alphatron EVF), but I've superimposed a waveform monitor on this clip to let you really 'get it' - to see exactly what data we're keeping in the brights and darks, and what's getting lost due to clipping.
Generally, I like to rolloff on the highs in film mode... but is it worth the extra handling in post?
Pics are all show in Video mode, then Film mode - then I show the Film mode shot with a LUT correction.
All with waveform monitor comparisons. (And if you don't know how to read a waveform, don't worry... you might still 'get it' in this explanation!)
