Pipeline has a reputation for possessing some of the most dangerous waves in the world. It’s also home to the final event of the world surf tour, supported by Billabong.
« Le diable probablement » is an attempt to capture the spirit of the event, with an analogy to that of a Roman gladiator, where you can feel the dangers of the Hawaiian wave, mixed with the public excitement in witnessing few men control the beast.
French photographer & Desillusion Magazine editor in chief, Sebastien Zanella was present on December 14th, the biggest day of the event, when the ocean was toying with demons, blurring the lines between voyeur & spectator, standing, waiting for the worst…. and the best.
This short film is based on the article “ Billabong Pipeline pro & philosophie de plage.” published in Desillusion Magazine 45 , Tome 1 available on tiny.cc/u7rxdx
Desillusion is a 260 page coffee table book, ad free, accompanied by a series of short-films exclusively showcasing every week on DSLmag.com. At the crossroads of two opposite worlds, the street & the beach, Desillusion pays a tribute to youth & a subculture raised on a surf and/or skateboard.
