'Alien' is one of the testpieces of the Teutoburger Wald: steep and with a hard, bouldery crux. It is graded (hard) 9-. The direct start (shown is this video), staying away from the left arrete, is a logical variation and provides better and harder moves directly into the crux without a shake out or resting position. It adds just that extra bit of spice and slightly increases the difficulty of the climb to 9. It is the most beautiful way to climb Alien for sure.
Note that there is a strict no-chalk-policy in the Teutoburger Wald. In the video I wear a chalkbag just to have a brush with me all the time: sector Schinder is very shady and therefore always a bit damp. Cleaning the holds is often necessary. For dry fingers I used 'Friction+', a colorless, 100% ecological and biodegradable anti-perspirant gel.
