Optimist Youth Homes and Family Services received its adoptions license in 1999. This program was added to enable us to help children in foster homes be permanently placed through the adoptions process. It is our firm belief that all children deserve a permanent home and family.
Optimist can help families adopt children from the foster care system. Many children who are currently in foster care are waiting for their “forever family”. Through Optimist, adoptive families receive an adoption home study and support throughout the foster care and adoption process. Adopting a child from foster care is not expensive - financial support is available to adoptive families until the child is 18, and adopted children have Medi-Cal under most circumstances.
To qualify to adopt a child from foster care, you can be married, single, or living in a committed relationship. Same gender couples are welcome. Applicants must qualify for both foster care and adoption.
All applicants are required to:
·Pass a background check
·Provide documentation such as marriage/divorce documents, income verification, health clearances
·Participate in training program
·Pass a safety home inspection
Optimist holds free Adoption Orientation Sessions in our Los Angeles County offices every month. Attending one of our meetings can help you decide if adopting through foster care is right for you. Adoption social workers are available after the meeting to set-up an individual appointment if you are interested.
