Detroit Public Schools is creating Centers of Excellence in every school in every neighborhood. The district’s primary mission is educating students to perform at high academic levels. DPS offers educational advantages to students and parents/guardians across the system and reforms throughout the district’s nearly 100 schools. Those include: A Career Academy; $146 million in student grants and scholarships for DPS seniors; Netbooks for every student in grades 6–12; and take-home Netbooks for grades 8–12.
And did you know: Excellent Schools Detroit (ESD) has issued a new report on Detroit’s schools, this time identifying the top 31 elementary and middle schools it recommends parents select for their children.
Detroit Public Schools again make up a majority of the new, Spring 2014 list, with 16 DPS schools and two DPS-authorized charters included. Nine other charters, two EAA and two private schools complete the list. Similarly, in 2013, DPS schools comprised 12 of 18 ESD top picks and eight DPS schools were among the top schools in the city as identified by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
