Bernie Byrne moved out to live independently with support from KARE in Kildare. Her mum Mag describes her journey from initially resisting the move to building trust with the support staff in the organisation and supporting Bernie's move. The video includes Theresa Nolan, Bernie's Lifecoach and Bernie, and shows the importance of family engagement and trust building when moving to individualised supports.
This video was presented at the Next Steps Conference in March 2014. At the conference Bernie first told her own story, before Mag introduced this section of video. The Next Steps Project supports the movement to individualised supports for people using intellectual disability service providers in Ireland.
