Warnemünder Woche 2013 - The 8th of July, at 1 P.M CET beginning of the Offshore Regatta Hanseboot “Rund Bornholm 2013". 10th of July, 03.08 CET attaining goal.
The team Speedsailing VO 60 SEB was “First ship home” after 38 hours and 8 minutes. I escorted Skipper Martin Buck and his crew. It was an extraordinary experience.
It was all there: sun, fog, rough wind and calm, ripping sails and breakfast from a dogs bowl. The „OPAL“ was never far away and always ready for an exciting match on the Baltic Sea between Warnemünde and Bornholm.
Offshore Regatte is different than Match Races and Track Regatta shown on television. 38 hours and 8 minutes with actually almost no sleep. Long routes switches with speedy maneuvers. Fast sail changes, sometimes even if it was just for a few minutes. Always having an eye on the course, wind, weaves and the weather forecast.
In between there was time to experience the wonderful surroundings. Corny sunsets are completely different on the open sea than on land or on a postcard.
Attaining the goal at 15:10 was dark and nothing spectacular. There are no excited people and no champagne waiting on land. Steersman Martin Kringel overslept and missed it. We were tired and happy to be back home.
