This is one of the first patterns my brother and I learned to tie. That was in 1963. We used gray fur, but this recipe uses blue dun superfine dubbing. The portrait next to my user name shows how it looks with fur dubbing. The pattern is very similar to the mosquito pattern. Having just started fly fishing, we didn't know about the mosquito pattern, so thinking this pattern was original to us, I think it was my brother who called it the Allen Special. It certainly was special to him and me, because we caught many trout with it. Please excuse the camera shake. I made the video before I realized "image stabilizer" shouldn't be used when the camera is on a tripod. I have since turned off that option.
