With enough cardboard you can do just about anything!
We had some amazing puppeteers on this project (Gravity, War Horse crew) and DOP Charlie Goodger bringing a great look to it. Shot in a day and on a small budget it really was a labour of love with friends.
The idea was to take two tracks from the album 'Puppet Loosely Strung' and use it to score a narrative piece about things coming together and breaking apart. It became a story about the break down of a relationship under one roof and featured a 9ft puppet controlled by 5 puppeteers. The puppeteers themselves are like a Greek chorus, observing the drama unfold. The puppet is a conduit of the character's emotional status and is formed of their possessions in removals boxes.
Charlie created some great in-camera lighting changes from daylight to darkness and the puppeteers did some lovely sequences of the puppet falling apart as the relationship did...
