Before Stadium Drive (U.S. 131-BR/I-94-BL) can be widened to add additional left turn lanes at Drake Road, the asphalt non-motorized trails on both sides must be removed. In this video, a 3-man crew removes the trail on the south side of Stadium Dr., on day 3 of the 4-month-long reconstruction project. Western Michigan University police drive by at 1:49.
This trail is the western end of a non-motorized, shared use path originally built by MDOT during the summer of 2004 ( michigan.gov/granholm/0,1607,7-168-23442_21974-73173--,00.html ). This segment of the trail has been largely unchanged since that time (some small pieces of the trail had been replaced due to underground utility work).
