This is the fifth film in a series of eight films featuring "Elements" of New York City. This being "summer heat".
I really enjoy filming in and around Manhattan, but the best skyline views are from across the Hudson and East Rivers. Some of the images were recently used in a feature film.
I created this film over a period of three or four days using a Sony EX3 in 180 24P using a variety of lenses including the camera's original zoom lens, a Nikon 180mm 2.8 and a 300mm 2.8. I also used various Formatt graduated filters to control the exposure in the sky. I used a set of 536 carbon fiber legs with a 526 head from Manfrotto, because I need stability when shooting with long lenses yet the gear has to be light enough to carry around. My partner Sarah and I edited the film on an Avid Media Composer.
I really like shooting with the EX3 because it reminds me of the 16mm Arri cameras that I used to work with. It's small, yet beefy enough to use like a film camera, especially when using a matte box and other professional tools.
The playful audio track "Leaving the Theater"is by the very talented Ehren Stark available on the Magnatunes site.
