Aesop wrote, "Familiarity breeds contempt." His statement is based on an observation. He noticed that people cautiously involve themselves with things that are potentially dangerous, but do so because the dangerous thing is in some way advantageous. Yet, when over a period of time they suffer no adverse consequences, their caution gives way to a false sense of security. Before long they inevitably suffer harm. This is particularly disastrous for Christians who become too familiar with Jesus. How do I know if I've fallen into this trap? In Mark 6:1-6a Jesus warns against becoming too familiar with God, and lists three marks of a person who has failed in this area.
