Kelvin Washington, a 25 year old graduate student at IslandWood, a "school in the woods" on Bainbridge Island 45 minutes by ferry boat West of Seattle, grew up in the rough streets of Houston Texas and had never so much as been camping before he came to teach kids in week-long outdoor education programs as part of his professional training. Now he hopes to apply the teaching philosophy he has learned to a school he plans to start back in Houston for inner-city boys.
