Here I discuss the plant growth strategy known as Hurry-Up and Wait; where a plant will grow rapidly in the spring and reach maturity before the canopy cover of the larger, slower growing trees blocks out the summer sun. Once reaching maturity, the plant will grow very little (wait) throughout the remainder of the growing season. We often find these in the undergrowth of deciduous forests. Examples include ramps.
