For about a year the composer/percussionist Erin Barbour and I collaborated on this piece. It has a kind of mysterious rhythm and melody to it. The melody reminds me of a Bach piece, actually. The title has an historical reference to a remark a critic made about Xylophone and Marimba duets, that they were as common as "pterodactyls in times square".
The piece is performed live, with the animation as a visual complement to the musical performance. The debut of the work, featured Erin Barbour on Xylophone and I-Jen Fang on Grand Marimba. The work has since been performed at a variety of locations and venues.
