Over the orange glow of molten iron, Jeff Bridgers prepares to hammer a salvaged leaf spring into a hand crafted knife rich with artistry. A birchwood pipe hangs from his mouth; an aura of sweet smelling English tobacco hangs around his face. It’s hot, the heat from the propane forge fills the space quickly as Bridgers moves back and forth between the flame and the anvil. The high pitched clang of a hand made hammer swung against soft hot iron echoes across the adjacent horse pastures.
Jeff is a blacksmith, a craftsman and an artist.
This is a short video depicting a brief vignette into the life of a modern blacksmith. Long gone are the days of forging everyday tools; Jeff discusses the market demands and his passion for shaping metal as an art.
