In this online event sponsored by Bio-Medical Instruments, Inc., Linda Walker, MHR, LPC, BCN, BCB will provide an introduction to the use of biofeedback in clinical practice.
Biofeedback is a learning process in which people are taught to improve their health and performance by observing signals generated by their own bodies such as heart rate, temperature and skin conductance. This information is fed back to the person in real time, allowing them to learn to control their response to different stressors. The many uses of biofeedback include relaxation, stress control, rehabilitation and peak performance.
Most people can identify when they are feeling stressed, but may not be aware that during stressful periods their heart rate speeds up, their respiration rate increases and their muscles tense. With knowledge of these physiological changes comes the power to regulate them. Asked about the benefit of biofeedback, Linda Walker replied, "Traditional therapies work from the outside in - biofeedback allows us to work from the inside out. Clients can gain an understanding of the physical symptoms of their mental health and learn to offset the negative impact of stress with bio-training."
