Artist Paul Czainski at work on the first images of the new Staithes Art Illusion Trail. Eventually Paul will paint eight images at sites around the village. A guide is being produced so that visitors can seek out the remarkable images as they explore the village. As well as being a leading fine artist, Paul specialises in images that trick the eye into thinking they are 3D. In the image painted here, even the 'stone' door surround is painted.
The trail was commissioned by the Staithes Art and Heritage Festival. Now in its third year, the festival attracts thousands of visitors over a September weekend. The trail is a way for curious visitors to enjoy art all year round. Images will appear through the summer of 2014.
The Staithes Art Illusion Trail is painted by Paul Czainski, and funded by the North York Moors National Park.
