M.M.O.S. is: Darryl Hell, Paul Cowen, Deftly D
M.M.O.S. originated from a concept in 1981. Paul Cowen and Darryl Hell [guitar player and bass player for the hardcore punk band Public Disturbance respectively] wanted to do a noise side project. Things would take a very different turn and require 32 years to bring the concept to life. Using looping concepts from when the idea originated and then creating soundscapes with a combination of modern electronic and self-made sound generators, our goal was to perform a future-primitive noisescape.
Because one of the idea's creators is in an extended care facility due to poor health issues, the recording session happened in Paul's room through headphones. Completely enjoying the process of recording, some of it was hard on him as his medicines were sometimes at odds with the blaring onslaught in his headphones. He later stated being almost giddy about being able to generate sound together after well over 25 years. I also thoroughly enjoyed performing this project with my long-time business partner, bandmate, and friend Deftly D.
