I'm very excited to have been asked to perform my work HOLLOW at the Sat 7 June opening of the upcoming group exhibition Alchemy and Metaphysics, curated by Jacob Hicks, Lily Koto Olive and Kiley Ames at the non-profit arts space Trestle Projects, an extension of Brooklyn Art Space in Brooklyn, NY. The exhibit will hang for one month, 7 June – 3 July .
In this show, a diverse group of national and international artists interpret and echo what the show’s overarching thematic, Alchemy and Metaphysics, means to them, with an emphasis on their personal elucidations of mythology, spirituality, metamorphosis, religion, science and ritual. These translations are expressed through the mediums of video, sculpture, photography, live performance art, installation, painting, essay and poetry from artists based in Argentina, Germany, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Texas.
I will be showing my video piece baggage in which I covered myself in layers of interior wall paint to allow the self to be transformed into a vehicle through which the soul could be bared. I then let each layer dry in real time. With each new layer the drying time increased, just like our ability to heal is weakened when we experience new forms of emotional pain. As the paint dried, I became something different, something unrecognisable.
The performance Hollow works on a similar principle of covering, but this time whats inside does not exist. I add layers of chocolate and move as slowly as possible between good and evil, never settling on one. The live performance lasts until people are immune to it it. Once evil becomes common place, we are all hollow.
My hope is to travel from Germany to NYC to help install the show and to be able to perform HOLLOW. This means I need to be there for a week.

I am also working on a project entitled: pam de bahr: this is me!
pam only lives online and is a reflection of the generation that has grown up online. She is on twitter, instagram and facebook. She will also be going to New York and adding to her collection of images where she is having lots of fun and enjoying time spent with friends. Some of her friends are my friends, but increasingly she is meeting people in the streets and acting like she knows them....just like she pretends to be talented at everything from skateboarding to playin the drums. pam needs the opportunity to travel and meet new people in New York.
