One of the things I appreciate about our Lutheran theology is that it is not an “I’m OK, you’re OK” theology. It does not excuse us or paint some nonsensical Pollyanna picture. It’s more of an, “I’m a mess… but that’s OK because you’re a mess too” way of understanding things. But there’s more to it than that, of course, because mixed in, with an under all of our messiness is another truth. And that other truth is that God fiercely loves us.
