It's not every day that you see runners dressed in full business suits. But that's what makes the Steps of Success 5K Nashville's most unique run/family walk.
Now in its third year, Steps of Success was inspired by the struggle of a local college student who overcame hardships to chase his professional dreams. Without either a scholarship or personal transportation, every day Demetrius Short made a grueling 3-mile walk from his college campus through rough neighborhoods to get to his internship jobs. Dressed in a business suit and carrying his briefcase, he knew that every step he took was a step toward success.
Today Demetrius is a successful member of Nashville's business community. He founded this unique 5K to create scholarship opportunities for college students and support after school programs for inner city youth in Nashville.
Proceeds from the Steps of Success 5K help fund mentoring programs that equip youth for successful careers.
The suit is a visual reminder that each step taken during the 5K helps our youth get one step closer to their professional dreams.
