Nicholas Alston went back to school to create a better life for his four children. But he didn't have a computer and he couldn't afford to buy one, like many other students who have to balance their home life with hours at the library in order to stay in school.
"They can't take their kid to the library, they can't bring them to a lab," said Gary Noah, professor of Information Systems Technology at TCC. When students were asking Noah to form a computer club, he combined two goals together: To give donated computers to students who could not afford them and to give IT students hands-on experience refurbishing the computers. In its fourth year, the club recently gave away its 5,000th computer.
