Every believer has to examine their own life to see if they believe that they meet the definition of a "disciple" of Christ. Jesus Christ said that truth will set us free. He also said that He is the Truth. "You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free (John 8:32).
Sin is a violation or offense against the will of God, which is His Word. We all sin and we all miss the mark. Our Lord and Savior, however, wants us to be "free" as His disciples so that we can experience the blessings of a life hid in Him. Through His Word, He teaches us how to walk "free" and away from the traps and deceptions of the enemy. Being "free" means believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, following His Word in obedience, resulting in a new identity as a "disciple" of Christ. We have the Lord's promise in John 8:36: "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."
